IRATA Rope Access Safety Supervisor Training
Course overview
2 Day Course : 2 days training including online examination.
This training will elevate the capabilities of IRATA Level 3 Technicians, equipping them with advanced safety and supervisory skills. By supplementing their existing rope access expertise, RASS certification prepares IRATA Level 3 Technicians to become outstanding leaders capable of adapting to the dynamic challenges of rope access operations.
Requirement
The training course is theory based and does not include practical rope access training.
- Candidates must have a valid IRATA Level 3 certification.
- Registered on TechConnect.
- IRATA logbook.
Minimum 14 hours of training followed by an online RASS theory Examination, pass/fail criteria.
Upon successful completion candidates receive a RASS experience logbook and certificate with their IRATA number denoted with an ‘S’ Certification is valid for 3 years from the date of the Examination.

Course syllabus
The RASS syllabus focuses on:
- The IRATA Safe System of Work and its critical elements.
- On-site safety supervision techniques to manage teams safely.
- Risk assessment strategies for proactive hazard management.
- Adaptive rescue planning for dynamic operational environments.
- Taking the lead on pre-use checks to assess the suitability of rope access equipment.
- Skills for clear and effective communication of safety information.
Certification
Successful RASS Candidates will be issued with a RASS certificate with their IRATA number prefixed with an ‘S’. On first registration, a RASS Experience Logbook will also be issued.
To maintain the RASS qualification, the candidate is required to complete and pass IRATA’s online CPD training course within every 12 month period, successfully complete a full RASS Training course and Examination every 3 years, and maintain their IRATA Level 3 certification.
